Our Humble Beginnings
In the summer of 2007, the Colts Drum and Bugle Corp and Prescott Charter School for the Arts began a steel drum program due largely in part to a grant the Colts obtained to purchase the pans. The idea was to give 4th and 5th graders a musical experience that went beyond the classroom and was a sound unique to the school. Before the first group of musicians arrived, the groups founders and co-directors, Patti Millius and Deb Stevens were taught how to play the pans by mentor, Stan Dahl from Central College in Pella, IA. After a 2 hour crash course in pan playing, the first students arrived and the rest they say, is history...our history.

That first summer saw the group grow from learning how to play these unique instruments, to actually playing in a public performance in beautiful downtown Dubuque under the historical Town Clock. The audience was amazed at what these young students had accomplished in only 5 weeks!
